All our Welcomed Says Fr. Joe from Montreal

Kripa Pune was privileged to have Iyengar students visiting the centre to be with the Kripa family. Last week a suprise visit by Luciana Brando from Brazil was an emotional meeting as she met Our National Program Director Bosco DSouza after 14 years. Luciana's last visit to Kripa was in Vasai 14 years back. She was happy  to see the way Kripa has expanded and quoted " It is a joy to see the marvelous work Fr. Joe is doing for addicts and HIV care."

This week we have Luisa and Ekta students of Iyengar yoga come to be volunteers to practice yoga with the patients of Kripa Pune . They would be practicing twice a week for the next few months. As one of the patient said " Wow ! please tell Fr. Joe a big THANK YOU for sending such lovely people to be with us. I was there for two hours practicing and now I'm enjoying Yoga" - (Sheetal-named changed, is a young girl of 16 a drug addict.)

I Prayed for each of You at St. Bro Andre Relic in Montreal

André Bessette, C.S.C. (9 August 1845 – 6 January 1937), more commonly known as Brother André (FrenchFrère André), and since his canonization as St. André of Montreal, was a lay brother of the Congregation of Holy Cross and a significant figure of the Roman Catholic Church among French-Canadians, credited with thousands of reported miraculous healings He was declared venerable in 1978 and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1982. Pope Benedict XVI approved the decree of sainthood for Blessed André on February 19, 2010, with the formal canonization taking place on October 17, 2010.

Bessette died in 1937, at the age of 91. A million people filed past his coffin.[9]
The remains of Bessette lie in the church he helped build. His body lies in a tomb built below the Oratory's Main Chapel, except for his heart, which is preserved in a reliquary in the same Oratory. The heart was stolen in March 1973, but was recovered in December 1974 with the help of famous criminal attorney Frank Shoofey .
Brother André was beatified by Pope John Paul II on May 23, 1982. The miracle cited in support of his beatification was the healing in 1958 of Giuseppe Carlo Audino, who suffered from cancer. St. Andre is commemorated in most of the world by an optional memorial on January 6. His memorial is celebrated in Canada on January 7.
On December 19, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI promulgated a decree recognizing a second miracle at Blessed André's intercession,[14] and on October 17, 2010, formally declared sainthood for him.

Fr. Joe felicitated on Guru Purnima Day

Guru Purnima (Sanskrit: गुरु पूर्णिमा) is a festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. This festival is traditionally celebrated to pay their respects to their teachers and express their gratitude. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the month of Ashadha (June–July).
The celebration is marked by ritualistic respect to thguruGuru Puja. The Guru Principle is said to be a thousand times more active on the day of Guru purnima than on any other day. The word guru is derived from two words, guand ru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness or ignorance, and ru denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore, a guru is one who removes the darkness of our ignorance. Gurus are believed by many to be the most necessary part of life. On this day, disciples offer puja (worship) or pay respect to their guru
This year at Kripa Foundation, Kripa vasai had the opportunity to pay their respects to Fr. Joe on behalf of the entire kripa Family Globally.
On 31st  July 2015, Kripa Vasai commemorated Guru Purnima to Rev. Fr. Joe at the centre itself, amidst a gathering of patients and staff.
Fr. Joe was welcomed by the traditional "Aarti", followed by a presentation of a card signed by the kripa Family of clients and staff , followed by presenting a shawl by one of the senior recoveries Rocky D.  Mr. Amit Patel of VRACS took an oath along with the entire community promising to make an attempt to walk in the pathway of Fr. Joe and his teachings.

Fr, Joe in the keynote address spoke so powerfully touching each one enlightening them on his work and what he expects of them to work in the field of Addiction and HIV care summarizing his speech that although he was a Guru to many worldwide he said with all humility  that his supreme Yogi was Lord Jesus.

Indeed a Real Guru.

The program was well organised under the leadership of Ms. Jean Pereira, Mousin, Vijay and the Kripa Staff and a grand success.

Maintaining the inner equilibrium

Padmashree awardee Fr Joe and Iyengar Yoga Expert Dr Radha Gopalan reiterate their commitment to helping people in Goa maintain their inner equilibrium as they conducted a workshop on the first anniversary of the Kripa Foundation Yoga Centre

By  | 30 Jul, 2015, 12:23AM IST

Employing the principles of minding the body to mind the mind through the teachings of B K S Iyengar, Padmashree awardee Fr Joe Pereira has been helping people tap and maintain their inner equilibrium, by using the wisdom of the body to bring about a life-altering and healthy way of life. “Iyengar Yoga has become a way of life,” he states.
Heartened by the fact that droves of people from various walks of life have been attending the yoga courses at the Kripa Foundation Yoga Centre in Panjim since its commencement last year, Fr Pereira avers that the anniversary is the perfect occasion to demonstrate the principles and benefits of Iyengar Yoga once again. “People with various major ailments from cardiac to Parkinson’s, back problems and dysfunctional knees have been attending. But make no mistake, just the mere process of learning yoga and practising it for a while isn’t enough; knowing and practising the right poses is important and adherence is the key to achieving results,” he cautions, speaking with an experience culled from 48 years in the line. Keeping in mind the theme of ‘learning to love your body back to life’, Fr Joe has been whetting the appetite of people for authentic practice of yoga to address any health problem.
Demonstrating the sirsasana and virasana poses, Fr Joe points out that people hardly believed that these rare posses could reverse one’s heart condition. Yet it has been achieved. “There are some asanas and propos that are specific to Iygengar Yoga which has helped to cure an amazing array of major illnesses. This is Guruji’s (BKS Iygengar) compassion. I have even seen a person in a cancer hospice benefit from Iyengar Yoga. Guruji has devised a pathway to a dimension within the inner wheel of life which western medicine is trying to cure externally,” he maintains.
His greatest achievement yet, for which he was awarded the Padmashree, is the integration of Iygengar Yoga into the Alcoholic Anonymous Self-help programme, particularly the 11th step.”I have been teaching people how to use the body for meditation. No medicine is authentic until it brings the body in a hyperbolic state of inner equilibrium. In 34 years of working, I have seen significant reversals,” he shares.
