TheTraining Program on “The basic Tenets of Jung’s Analytical Psychology” by Dr. Ashok Bedi MD was organised by Kripa Foundation on 20 – 21 February 2012 at Dr. Leo Barnes Foundation Centre, Bandra, commenced today. The resource person Dr. Bedi is a Jungian psychoanalyst and an eminent psychiatrist. He is a member of the Royal College of psychiatrist of Great Britain, and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is a clinical Professor in Psychiatry at the Medical College in Milwaukee. He is an author of several books and the President of the Carl G. Jung Institute of Chicago.
The program was for a select Kripa staff and collaborators involved in the recovery process in the field of chemical dependency and HIV AIDS. The purpose of the training was to educate the participants on the Basic Tenets of Carl Jung’s Analytical Psychology and introduce Jungian concepts as they apply to the recovery process in addiction. The program aimed to highlight the spiritual interconnectedness between Jungian psychological principles and the 12 Step Program of the Alcoholic Anonymous (A.A.). Rev Fr. Joe H. Pereira introduced the resource person and the participants and led the opening prayer. Dr. Bedi simplified the main concepts of Jung’s Analytical Psychology for the participants and brilliantly connected the concepts to the Indian tradition and the A.A. Programme. His lucid speech and personal testimony made a lasting impact on participants. He stressed on getting rid of “our egos and theories” and encountering the real person in the patient and becoming an instrument of healing to channel God’s grace (Kripa). At the end of the day the participants were looking forward to the next days workshop. Indeed a Jungian experience.
